We received this news from our friends at MOCSA:

Our first event in our new year marks a very special day in the life of our Club: our 21st birthday.

The inspiration behind the formation of MOCSA was the Mini’s 30th birthday in 1989. The STAR Motoring Edition of 13 July 1989 reported that “South African Mini enthusiasts are invited to get together tonight at 7.30 at the Capri Hotel for the inaugural meeting of the Mini Cooper Club, incorporating the Mini Owners Club that will be held there.”

A further report of Thursday 24 July 1989 stated that “The amazing Mini’s thirtieth birthday is to be celebrated locally by the Mini Club on Sunday when “Mini-sters” will gather in the Balfour Park shopping centre parking area and leave in convoy for breakfast at the Indaba Hotel.”

It was noted that Champagne and orange juice was served at Balfour and all members sang Happy Birthday Mini and then 46 cars set off in convoy for the Indaba!

It was indeed a privilege for the Mini Owners’ Club of Southern Africa to have played a major role 20 years later in the organization of the Mini’s 50th birthday that was celebrated at the Zwartkops track on 23 August last year… and we are now working on the 51st birthday bash on the 29th of August this year.

Your Committee thought it would be a great idea to repeat the original run of 1989...but times have caught up with us and it was felt that the quote received from the Indaba hotel was a bit too steep for our pockets in these tough times.

We still would like to commemorate that day however with a convoy run followed by breakfast and we would like to urge all to make an extra special effort to come along on Sunday 18th July. We will meet at the entrance gates to the Kyalami racetrack at 08h30 and depart at 09h00 in convoy for the Randjesfontein horse racing training facility in Midrand where we will have a private breakfast at the Clubhouse.

Inclusive cost will be R60 per adult and R30 for kids under 12.

Your Committee will provide the “bubbly” as well as a special 21st Birthday Commemorative Certificate for all Mini/MINI owners in attendance.

A surprise “Lucky Draw” will also be held for a rather nice prize!

Please make every effort to come along and join fellow Miniacs at the rebirth of our Club on this auspicious birthday.

To help with logistics it would be great if you could drop an RSVP email to
